Classroom Rules:
1. Listen carefully.
2. Follow directions.
3. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
4. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
5. Respect school and personal property.
6. Work and play safely.
These are the basic rules for our classroom. Minor incidents will be handled on an individual basis. For more serious issues, a student may be sent to the principal's office and parents will be contacted. The District's Behavior Policy can be viewed at usd205.com under the Bluestem Elementary Page (Handbooks and Forms).
Assignment Book:
Each student will be given an assignment book to use. Each day, students are required to list all of their assignments for the day before leaving school. They are to get your signature on the book each evening. The book must be signed and turned in each morning by 8:00a.m.
Grading Scale:
A 90-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
D 60-69%
F 59% and below
**Please remember that you can check student grades at any time on Power School.
Homework:
Usually work is assigned one day and is due at the beginning of the next day. Students will be given a portion of each class period for work time on the assigned work. If the work is not completed during the day, it is up to the student to take it home and bring it back completed the next morning. Students may have as much as 30 minutes of homework daily. If your child is having more than 30 minutes of homework, please contact me. All books may be taken home if needed to work on assignments. iPads may be taken home from Monday to Wednesday to complete work. They may not be taken home on Thursday, for the duration of the weekend.
Late Work:
Assigned work is due the following morning by 8:00. If the assignment is turned in within 24 hours of the original due date, the graded paper will receive a 10% reduction for being late. After that, the paper will be collected and graded as is with no chance for corrections. If the paper is not received at all a "0" will be entered for that assignment.
Absent Work:
Attendance is very important, however, if a student has to miss, time will be given to make up all missed assignments. Students will be given 2 days for each day of being absent to complete and hand in work. Exceptions will be made for extended absences.
Corrections of Student Assignments:
We encourage parents and students to review papers at home and to self correct. Our goal is for your child to do their work correctly and to the best of their ability the first time through without the need for corrections.
Any paper 69% and below may be corrected for ½ credit. Any paper returned to a student for corrections is due the next morning. Tests are excluded.
Reading Incentives:
As students read AR books throughout the year, they will receive incentives for their progress.
Students must read in their reading level and must have a comprehension score as set by individual teacher. Classroom incentives will replace the AR store for fifth and sixth grade students. Incentives will be awarded each nine weeks as follows:
5 pts Candy item
10 pts Can of pop
20 pts Free Assignment Coupon
30 pts Extra Recess (15 minutes)
Above 30 pts Movie day at end of the nine weeks.
